Well, the summer is quickly coming to an end for us. I am back to school. This is also the day that they begin tearing down our 50 year old school to make way for Costco. For the next 18 months we will be at 85 year old Woodrow Wilson at 3rd East and 2800 S. The only good thing is we won’t have to move classrooms every 9 weeks as year-round schools usually do. This is a 20 minute commute during rush hour. I hope my car can take it. It is 12 yrs. old and only leaks when it rains! I have enjoyed living close enough to work that I could easily take a bus or walk if I had to, so this will take an adjustment for me.
David has been doing a lot of work on the computer, scanning old family pictures. He is working as the Stake Family history consultant. I’m trying to get a handle on what a Relief Society president is suppose to do. I think I have the Sunday thing down, it’s just the Monday thru Saturday thing that has me stymied. One thing that is overwhelming is how you have to go to everything the ward sponsors and them some like baby showers, receptions, open houses. We have a 3 day ward campout next week. We will go up after work on Friday and stay at a close motel that night. We’ve never been before so it should be pretty interesting!
We just finished a fun family get-together at Pine View Dam. Glen and Stacy graciously brought their boat and they were non-stop on the water for two days. Many people water skied and wake boarded. The weather was hot and the wind liked to pick up in the afternoon. On Monday, we were sandblasted by the wind. We all are sporting sunburns! Anna and Mitchell were content to spend most of their time just playing in the sand. Shelby, James and Olivia were either in the water swimming or on the boat. We all had to try our hand at the Kiack, even me! Big James and his friend Michelle enjoyed the water skiing a lot. He is doing some volunteer work at the Logan Zoo (3rd largest zoo in Utah, ha, ha!) He still works on campus and has had a fun summer. School will be starting soon for both of them at USU.
We stayed at the best campground in Utah! Grandma Prather’s back yard! Between the trampolines (2 of them) and the climbing swing set and the sandpile, the kids were constantly on the go! The beautiful grass and the tall trees makes the heat almost go almost unnoticed.
We are doing some remodeling at our old house in the basement. We are making a full size kitchen out of what used to be a craft room. Right now we are in the demolition stage and are tearing out one wall, the ceiling and all the dry wall and insulation. It is real messy but rewarding work. You can certainly see what you accomplish each day. We need to be ready for a plumber and an electrician to begin work by the end of the week. Unfortunately, David stepped on a nail and it punctured his foot. He went and got a tetanus shot along with whooping cough. It has been somewhat painful for him to walk on but he is toughing it out.
Well, I can just start to see the sun rise over the mountains. It’s time to run the flag up the flagpole that we put up on our deck in remembrance of Grandma Lola. When the kids sleep over, they know that the first one up gets to put up the flag. We think that helps them to get to sleep quicker in the evening. It’s nice having a room for the boys to stay over in and a room for the girls. It’s fun being a grandparent! We really like our house across the street from the old one. The kids like the new playhouse that Norm (Brenda’s husband) helped to put up while they were waiting for their own house to be built. They are now settled in at Stansbury park. This is about 25 minutes west of where we live, on the other side of the mountain. They are expecting a little girl around Thanksgiving time! That will be #6 for us! Take Care—Mary Jean
